"The figure is still the only thing I have faith in, in terms of how much emotion it's charged with and how much subject matter is there."

My husband, Mark Dushkes, restores Japanese folding screens. His trash is my treasure. In remounting screens, the art is removed and the paper, fabric and wood structure underneath is thrown out. Much of the pillow paper used in screens is vintage recycled Japanese ledgers, newspapers, and books. I've pieced together these papers into a full sized Kimono.
